Community College and Undergraduate

The RMTL serves as the primary training laboratory for community college and undergraduate students at UC San Diego. The 10-week academic year program is free of cost. The RMTL team offers technical support, and students receive training in laboratory safety, pipetting, preparing solutions, pH, centrifugation, spectrophotometry, and more. Students also learn advanced research methodologies such as protein purification, enzyme kinetics, and gel electrophoresis. UC San Diego undergraduate students are able to gain independent study credit for research projects supported by the RMTL.

The program also offers mentorship, coaching, and career tips for those interested in the health fields. It includes writing letters of recommendation, assisting with applications to research opportunities and/or graduate/medical school, and connecting students to the broader health science research community.
